CRC Initiative

Reproductive research has a long tradition in Münster – beginning with the DFG research group “Germ Cell Potential” (RU1041) in 2008. Since then, various collaborative research projects have emerged, focusing on unresolved questions, conducting basic and translational research, and implementing clinical diagnostics in order to gain new insights and innovations in reproduction. The focus has consistently been on clinical application and relevance – with an emphasis on the individuals driving the research.

Our CRC initiative Reproduction.MS represents the next logical step in this journey.

The CRC1748 initiative will be a prime example of cross-faculty research and collaboration between basic science and clinical practice in Münster. The scientific projects will focus on the function of the testes, germ cells, and sperm, as well as on fertilisation and early embryonic development. Over the course of three CRC funding periods, the scope will be gradually expanded to, e.g., sperm-induced egg cell activation, embryonic development, developmental defects, and implantation failure.

Intensive dialogue, focus and, above all, teamwork are key factors that drive us toward achieving our vision. Through joint workshops, strategic planning and accompanying measures such as monthly seminars, we are steadily progressing toward our goal.

We aim to intensify our long-term efforts in reproductive research to elucidate the molecular pathomechanisms of male infertility. This will provide insights into the principles of reproduction and facilitate the transfer of our findings into the clinic, ultimately improving patient care.
